The Arran Butcher
Originally known as HB McKinnon, Hugh McKinnon opened the butchers in 1964 and while the shop serviced Lochranza, he purchased a travelling shop and was able to expand, covering the north end from Pirnmill round to Corrie.
Hugh’s son, David, joined the business in 1986 as an apprentice butcher - serving his time between college in Ayr and working in the Lochranza shop. Not only did they supply the local community, but they also were able to supply the yachtsmen anchoring in Lochranza Bay.
In 2008, Hugh decided to semi-retire and David stepped into his dad’s shoes full time, taking over the day to day running of HB McKinnon, Lochranza. David continued to work hard, buying DLGalbraiths shop in Blackwaterfoot and successfully expanding and rebranding to become The Arran Butcher.
Although the shop in Lochranza has now closed, you’ll see the Arran Butcher vans around the island delivering fresh supplies to the rest of the island, allowing us to offer a unique, friendly and efficient service to all of our customers. Personal service is key - we are proud to call our customers our friends.
In April 2015 we were very proud to win the Scottish Rural Butcher Award.
